Who are the 5 most important people in the world? I guess we could judge them by power. But power, without application in a way that is valuable to the future of the planet would be utterly useless, perhaps even dangerous to the beings of earth. So, I think it is best to select these individuals based on the best ideas for the future of our planet. Even so, without the ability to make meaningful changes, these individuals cannot have a significant impact.

To find the most important people in the world, we can start by determining what is most important for the future of the earth and then see if we have a powerful champion to lead us to a better world. If we cannot find one, perhaps one needs to emerge! Maybe, we can create such a powerful person by putting our support there.

So with this in mind let’s search out our top 5!

#5 Ocean’s Health

Three years ago, a young wild orca whale washed up on a Scottish shore. The autopsy revealed that it had died of poisons used as pesticides on agricultural land that had gotten into the oceans and concentrated in this orca’s food. Bear in mind this orca is feeding primarily on organic fresh-caught fish served in top-quality sushi restaurants.

On the day I read about this story, the headlines were flooded with what Donald Trump had said to the French President’s wife. It was something many construed as slightly inappropriate. It was so insignificant that I don’t have the faintest clue right now what it might have been.

On that day, I wish the news around the world quoted a powerful person talking about actions aiming to improve our oceans’ health. Someone that knows how to keep our oceans clean and thriving. Someone that could call meetings that world leaders would be sure to attend, provide their input to, and coordinate their efforts to improve ocean health.

I did a google search, and I could not find a person with such great power and influence. Can a champion emerge? Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of Jaque Cousteau, leader of the Ocean Futures Society, works every day to conserve the oceans.

His successes are small in comparison to what’s needed to restore the health of the planet. Perhaps someone like him will emerge and gain a big voice on the global stage. Perhaps it could be him if he was given enough support.

#4 Democracy Is Over

A Princeton and Northwestern study in 2014 on democracy in America created an explosive debate. The study concluded that democracy is OVER in the USA and perhaps in many other countries considered democratic.

The study described what the public is feeling. Their votes and voices are being ignored in favor of corporate lobby groups and lobby groups backed by big money.

Could it be that a few powerful entities are competing and colluding to set public policy and shape societal thinking? If so, what does this mean for the direction and future of public policy? What does this mean for public health, environmental health, global security, and stability? While healthy corporations generate great value for society, profit made to through a loss to public wellbeing should never be allowed. History shows that inequality, high wealth gaps, and loss of public health lead to the weakening and implosion of countries.

Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have been strong critics of corporations and lobby groups funding political campaigns. Will we see a day that a political candidate wins without corporate or lobby money in a large democratic nation?

#3 Natural Habitats

Her journey started 60 years ago, and her life purpose was unknown at the time. After one of the most epic life journeys on planet Earth, she has proven the best ways known to humanity to integrate human civilization with natural ecosystems.

Her approach is to plan human settlements and transportation systems to allow animal populations to migrate unblocked. This means large migratory green spaces running like fingers through developed areas. This creates better environments for the physical and mental well-being of people while boosting wildlife and natural habitats.

The woman that has brought this system to life is Jane Goodall. At age 87, she is still working hard to deploy her ideas and has proven the success of this system for people, animals, and economics. If her ideas and their positive impact on people and nature take off, and governments and urban planners adopt the principles; civilization will be a richer, more soulful, and more abundant place. Power to you, Dr. Jane Goodall!

Some governments are now also thinking about converting lands destroyed by natural disasters into green spaces and interlinking green spaces, which is the key. We can bring power to this idea by seeking to interlink green spaces at every opportunity and asking that government make all plans with substantial migratory passages for animals that also serve as parkland recreation for humans.

#2 Reverse Climate Change

Climate change is on everyone’s mind and hotly debated. Guess what? There is new hope for both sides of the debate as one very important idea gains traction. Some really good science shows that the healthier our soil gets, the more CO2 it captures, holds, and uses for productive purposes, and the greener our planet gets.

Decreasing drought, increasing nutrients in our food supply, and reducing the amount of CO2 in our atmosphere can all be done swiftly and effectively through soil enrichment.

This idea involves farming practices that reduce exposing soil through tilling and using practices that are more friendly to CO2 absorbing micro-organisms in the soil that also enrich it and break down plant material that holds water.

So, who is championing this idea?… Allan Savory gave a Ted talk called How to green the world’s deserts and reverse climate change. Others are working on proving out this idea for the benefit of farmers. Someone, however, must take the baton and do what is most important: bring government and industry together in the global mass adoption of soil health practices while continuing to develop practices to do on a large scale.

Innovations like this may be the key to improving our atmosphere and land.

#1 The Most Important Person In The World

A better world is created by a critical mass of people adopting great ideas. People become powerful when their ideas have support. This causes mental and physical energy to power the idea. Ideas must reach a tipping point to spread like crazy, and then innovation in implementation must follow so that there is a financial return on these ideas. Then they can spread quickly across the globe.

With most of us feeling that the world is at a critical junction, fast adoption of good ideas is critical. Ideas are shared, developed, and supported by people like you and I. Therefore the most important person in the world right now is YOU.

Ideas Worth Sharing

The most important people in the world are those that share ideas that will benefit our planet and society over the long term. These people will contribute to the creation of a collective and collaborative mind that will gain power and momentum defeating any single individual or small group that runs on selfish motives alone.

So as long as we are sharing good intentions and good ideas there is hope. When these good intentions and beneficial ideas sit in the hearts of the world’s masses, they will become reality.

So spread your intentions and good ideas. If you like this article please share it too!
